2016: The Year of Relationships

Happy New Year 2016! Last year came and went in a blink, didn't it? The years seem to go faster the older we get, which is an excellent reason to make the most of every hour, every day, every encounter. We have been given the gift of togetherness and every day we can choose to join hands or we can choose to isolate. Doesn't that seem like a pretty simple choice? The more you love others, the more others will love you back. Love is the eternal gift, and we all have love in us. For 2016, make a commitment to dedicate yourself to love, i.e. building and growing relationships. Reach out and love more this year! Use love as your main motivator in all that you do and you can not go wrong.
Where are we without good solid relationships in our families, schools, neighborhoods, and in our social lives? Fact: People that don't know how to form healthy relationships with others will almost always have a hard time in the work place or on the home front, not to mention the ROMANCE. This year, focus on building NEW RELATIONSHIPS. You can do it if you choose to do it. I promise! It's as simple as a choice. Either you do it...or you don't.
“Love is as critical for your mind and body as oxygen. It’s not negotiable. The more connected you are, the healthier you will be both physically and emotionally. The less connected you are, the more you are at risk.” (Psychology Today Magazine). Instead of burning bridges, build them! There are so many benefits to choosing love and togetherness. Here are just a few listed below for your Happy New Year Prescription!
1.) Relationships are good for your health. Countless studies show that married people live longer than unmarried people. I have seen the miracle of love in my own office time and time again. I have met many people who are coming out of a difficult break up or, sadly, death of a spouse, and low and behold as soon as they begin meeting new friends they become “whole” again. Loneliness, on the other hand, is a contributing risk factor for Alzheimer’s, suicide, and many other terrible ailments. Love is hope, and hope is a cure.
2.) Romantic relationships are good for weight loss (BONUS). One of the “perks” in my job is that many members may join and say: “I want to lose a few pounds and get in better shape.” Well, what a better motivator then having a date Saturday night? I have seen ladies and men that join with the infamous “ten pounds." Within weeks of joining the weight seems to just fall off. Why? Mainly because of the renewed faith and optimism.
3.) Good relationships ward off depression. The less bonding you have, the more depressed you are likely to feel. This is one reason why I decided to work in this business instead of pursuing my doctorate in psychology. I realized at a young age that love is a cure...and a natural antidepressant. Love more and you will feel better. Love less or “isolate” more and the world will close up on you; you will end up ALONE. Yes, there are people that need real medication and that is personal...but the ultimate power lies in love and relationships.
4.) Relationships are good for the economy. Think about it. If you are feeling love at home, if you have a hot date to look forward to on the weekend, don’t you think your spirits will be lifted naturally? You will walk taller, smile bigger, and show more love to others around you—hence attracting positive results. “Like attracts like.” You will be a magnet for good energy, and as a result you will have a happier year! Whatever your goals may be, they will come easier.
Fact: Good relationships will foster more light in your life. As you become more connected, you will feel more attractive, energetic, optimistic, confident, inventive, sentimental, receptive, and motivated. I sincerely hope this desire to merge and bond with others (from your neighbors to coworkers to family to NEW LOVE) will spread like a wild fire for you. Without love and bonding, where would we all be? The world would cease. So, join in on the “Love Movement”...or the Revolution Dating Club...and DO make love your ultimate goal this year.
Your life and love is in your hands...let's make it an amazing year!
Happy New Year and Happy New Relationships in 2016!
